Save the date! EXTRA sci-fi festival Verona’s celebration of science fiction, is set to return for its fourth edition from 13 to 29 March 2025. As the first festival of sci-fi culture in Verona, EXTRA has quickly become a must-attend event for fans and creators alike, offering a unique platform for exploring the genre’s diverse forms – from literature and cinema to art and science.
This year’s programme will feature three iconic cult movies that have left a lasting impact on the genre. These films, chosen for their cultural significance, will allow viewers to revisit classics that have shaped the sci-fi landscape. Each film will be introduced by cinema experts.
Additionally, the festival will present a carefully curated selection of recent short and feature-length films, focused on futuristic themes and attained thanks to the ongoing partnership with the prestigious Trieste Science+Fiction Festival.
In addition to the screenings, EXTRA will host a conference at the University of Verona, an exhibition featuring a leading figure from Italian sci-fi history and a book launch of the illustrator who created this year’s festival imagery.
“Starting a festival is a challenge, but we believe it’s worth it because science fiction has so much to offer and so much to say about our past and future,” says Emanuele Del Medico, one of the founders of EXTRA. He adds, quoting prominent Italian writer Valerio Evangelisti: “If I ignore science fiction, my world shrinks and no longer aligns with the reality around me. And I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.”
The 2025 edition promises to build on the festival’s legacy, offering an exciting lineup that will captivate both newcomers and long-time fans. Mark your calendars for 13 to 29 March 2025 and stay tuned for updates on the programme and ticket information at extrascififestival.it.
