EXTRA joins indie festival platform FilmFreeway for 2025 submissions

Published: 03/09/2024

This year EXTRA sci-fi festival Verona has joined the leading film festival and indie film marketplace, FilmFreeway. This online platform allows filmmakers to submit their feature or short film to be considered for inclusion in our festival programme. Trusted by our partner Trieste Science+Fiction Festival (TS+FF) as well as other major players such as Sundance Film Festival and Torino Film Festival, we too have decided to open up our selection process and provide established, emerging and student filmmakers with the chance to showcase their work in Verona. This partnership will no doubt enrich our programme with the latest and most innovative work being produced in the sci-fi sphere.

Every selected short included for the upcoming fourth edition of EXTRA will receive a special mention. If selected, feature films are eligible to win one (or both!) of EXTRA’s awards: the “Critic’s Choice Award”, selected by our panel of critics and experts and the “People’s Choice Award”, voted for by our enthusiastic audience. Last year both of these were awarded to Jérémie Périn’s much-lauded cyberpunk animation, Mars Express (France 2022), selected from TS+FF’s rich 2023 programme.

To submit your work, visit our festival page here. Click the green “Submit now” button where you can upload a screener link to your film. The deadline for submissions to the 2025 edition of EXTRA is 1st December 2024 and candidates will be notified of the results on 10th January 2025. Eligible feature films (max 90 mins) and shorts (2–20mins) must have been released within the past 2 years. If selected, feature films (in languages other than Italian) and shorts (in languages other than English or Italian) must be able to provide subtitles in Italian or English.
