EXTRA Sci-Fi Festival is a celebration of science fiction in all its forms, uniquely positioned as Verona’s leading event for fans and creators alike.
Our mission is to create a vibrant space where everyone with a passion for sci-fi – whether through film, literature or visual arts – can come together to explore, imagine and discuss the future.
Founded in 2021 by a dedicated group of cinephiles, cultural promoters and film critics, the festival has quickly established itself as a must-attend event in Verona. Each edition opens with the screening of one or more cult classic from the history of sci-fi cinema. The festival then unfolds with a programme of independent short and feature films carefully selected from Trieste Science+Fiction Festival, the most important and historic science fiction festival in Italy, with whom we are proudly partnered. Each screening is preceded by an introduction by critics from Heraldo and i400calci, EXTRA’s media-partners. A series of events enrich the festival by exploring the countless themes of the genre: study days at the University, presentations of books and comics, exhibitions and much more.
An esteemed jury, comprised of industry professionals and genre experts, awards the festival’s top honours, celebrating outstanding achievements in science fiction filmmaking. Our notable past jurors include Valentina Romanzi (researcher at the University of Turin), Marco Triolo (i400calci), Nicola Cupperi (FilmTv), Francesco Lughezzani (Circolo del Cinema), Stefano Zattera (illustrator), and Emanuele Antolini (Heraldo).
